Kevin Regnier – Spinal Patient

Kevin couldn’t walk his dog. He couldn’t fish. But now he can pick a penny up off the floor!

“The pain was so bad,” he said, “I was at the point where I thought – just take my legs. I couldn’t live like that anymore.”

During his career in the military and with Lockheed Martin, Kevin often walked up to 30 km a day in heavy protective gear. It wore his body down. He tried everything – physio, pool therapy, pain meds. Nothing worked.

Then he was referred to Dr. Neil Manson at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Kevin drove from Tracy, NB, for a spinal fusion surgery that changed everything. “That night, I was walking the halls,” he said. “By June, we were driving across the country to see our grandson graduate.”

“He’s doing a lot better than before the surgery. We even do the dishes together,” his wife, Kathleen, added.

Kevin had already been walking Lucy, their two-year-old shepherd pup, twice a day before surgery, just like Dr. Manson asked. Now, he’s fishing again. And driving a school bus. And he even vacuums!

Because of the Spine Centre’s expertise – and the generosity of people who believe in it – Kevin’s story isn’t rare.

It’s what happens when we invest in local care – and in the people who make it exceptional.

“I figured if I could get half of what I was before, that would be a win. But in reality, I got my life back” -Kevin Regnier, grateful spinal surgery patient
